Anam for Shopify: Privacy Notice
Last updated: 29 October 2026
1. About this notice
This notice explains how Anam AI Ltd (“Anam”, “we”, “our” or “us”) handles information when a merchant uses the Anam: AI Shopping Assistant app for Shopify (the “App”), and when shoppers talk to the assistant on that merchant’s online store. It supplements our Privacy Policy and Data Processing Addendum. Where this notice is more specific about the App, it applies.
The merchant chooses to offer the assistant on their store. We process shopper information to provide the App to that merchant.
2. What the App does
The App adds an AI video assistant to a merchant’s online store. Shoppers can talk to it or type to it. It answers questions, searches the store’s catalogue, shows products and, when asked, adds items to the shopper’s cart. The assistant is an AI, and the App tells shoppers so before and during every call.
3. Information from the merchant’s Shopify store
The store’s name, Shopify shop ID and myshopify domain.
The App’s own settings, such as the assistant’s face, voice, instructions and call limits.
Public storefront information the assistant uses during a call: products, prices, availability and the store’s policies.
Shopify makes the store owner’s contact details available to every installed app. The App does not use or store them. The App does not request access to the store’s orders or customer records.
4. Information about shoppers during a call
Voice audio, if the shopper chooses to use their microphone, and any messages they type.
The page they are viewing: its headings, buttons, links and labels, and the product and variant they have selected. The App does not read what shoppers type into the page’s own forms.
Their cart contents, when the assistant views or changes the cart at their request.
Their IP address, approximate location derived from it, and technical details about their browser and device.
When each call starts and ends.
The App also stores two things in the shopper’s browser:
A random visitor ID, used only to apply per-visitor call limits. It contains nothing about the shopper.
The last few messages of the current conversation, kept in the browser tab for up to 45 seconds so the call can continue when the shopper moves to another page.
If the shopper is signed in to the store’s customer account, the App uses a one-way hash of their customer ID to apply call limits. It does not receive their name or email address.
5. How we use this information
To run the call: speech recognition, generating the assistant’s replies, speech synthesis and the video avatar.
To show products and change the cart when the shopper asks.
To bill the merchant for call minutes through Shopify.
To apply the merchant’s call limits, prevent abuse, keep the service secure and fix problems.
We do not record the audio or video of calls made through the App. We keep a written transcript of each call so the merchant can review it (see section 6). We do not use App data, including transcripts, to train Anam’s models or third-party foundation models, and we do not sell it.
6. Conversation transcripts
For each call, Anam stores a transcript of the conversation: what the shopper said, as text from speech recognition, or typed, and the assistant’s replies. We also store which pages of the store the call took place on and which products the assistant added to the cart.
Transcripts are stored in the Anam organization created for the merchant’s store. The merchant can read them on the App’s Conversations page in their Shopify admin, and in that Anam organization.
The App does not link a transcript to the shopper’s name, email address or customer account. If a shopper gives personal details during a call, such as their name or email address, those words are in the transcript.
We keep transcripts while the merchant has the App installed. When the merchant uninstalls the App, Shopify asks us to delete the store’s data 48 hours later, and we delete the transcripts with the rest of the store’s call data then (see section 8). To have a particular conversation deleted sooner, the merchant can email support@anam.ai with the date and time shown for it on the Conversations page.
7. Who we share it with
Our subprocessors, which provide speech recognition, language models, speech synthesis and hosting. The current list is in the Anam Trust Center.
Shopify, which receives the start time and length of each call so it can bill the merchant. Shopify does not receive call content.
The merchant, who can read each call’s transcript and see its records, such as its times, length and the pages it was on, in the App and in the Anam organization connected to their store.
8. Retention and deletion
A merchant can disconnect the App from Anam at any time, which revokes its access. When a merchant uninstalls the App, it ends any calls in progress and stops billing. Shopify then sends us a request to delete the store’s data, 48 hours after the uninstall. When we receive it, we:
erase the shopper information linked to the store’s calls, including transcripts, IP addresses, location, page details and any recordings;
close the Anam organization created for the store; and
delete the App’s copy of the store’s settings.
We keep limited records where we need them for billing, security or legal reasons, such as call times and lengths, as described in our Privacy Policy. The merchant’s own Anam login is not deleted.
9. Shopper requests
Shoppers who want to access or delete their information can contact the merchant whose store they visited, or email us at support@anam.ai. We will help the merchant respond. The App does not link calls to a shopper’s name or email address. To find a conversation, we need the store and the date and time of the call.
